Tall Ships come to Duluth
The Roseway

The Roseway has had a long and very diverse history. She was built to win a race in 1925 as a fishing schooner. The builder knew a woman named Rose who always got her way, and in the process, had a ship named after her. The Second World War saw her purchased for use as a pilot boat in Boston harbor. Soon she was fitted with a  .50-caliber machine gun to assist in her efforts. She was the last US pilot schooner and was replaced in 1973 by smaller steel powerboats.

She was purchased and had several additions that turned her into a passenger tour boat, at least until she was repossessed by the bank. They donated the ship to the World Ocean School and they are the operators now who are bringing the ship to Duluth.
