Tall Ships come to Duluth
The Roald Amundsen

The hull of the Roald Amundsen was built in 1952 as a part of the military fleet of former East Germany. When the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, she was retired from that duty. She was rediscovered in 1992 and turned into a  traditional brig. She spends a good bit of time in the North Sea, Baltic Sea and the Mediterrean. She offers tours to the public that are learning experiences for a wide variety of people. Her crew is now a large group of people who trained on these trips and then kept involved on a voluntary basis. Another large group of volunteers puts many hours into maintaining the ship.
