| The Paul Thayer was built in 1973 as a river class boat that could reach ports on rivers where 1,000 foot boats could not reach. She was very similar to the Wolverine (now the Robert S. Pierson) and the William R. Roesch (later the David Z. Norton). All three boats would carry taconite up the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland to steel mills. In 1994, the Thayer was renamed the Earl W. Oglebay after the boat was sold. Sold again, it now operates as the Manitowoc. |
