| The J.A.W. Iglehart was built in 1936. She is 501 feet long and has 18 cargo compartments below deck. She can carry 13,200 tons of dry bulk cement, making her the largest cement carrier ever to operate on the Great Lakes. Past names such as Pan Amoco betray her former life as an ocean going oil tanker. Her high bow is also a reminder of her days fighting large ocean waves. She has been hauling cement since she was converted from an ocean going oil tanker into a Great Lakes cement carrier in 1965. |
