The Algocen was sold, renamed Valgocen and went to Bayshore Recycling dock in Keasbey, New Jersey in 2005. The Algocen was built in 1968 by Collingwood Shipyards, Ltd. at Collingwood, Ontario, Canada. She was 730 feet long and was powered by a 9,400-hp diesel engine. The Algocen was owned and operated by Algoma Central Railway of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. Her name came from the first four letters of Algoma and the first 3 letters of Central. She is a straight deck bulk carrier. The rectangular structure on her deck is a hatch cover opener. It can move from one end of the boat to the other lifting hatch covers so that cargo can be deposited into one of her 6 holds.
