Original name was Belle River but it was changed to her present name in the spring of 1990, when Mr. McCarthy retired from his position as Chairman of the Board of Detroit Edison. Mr. McCarthy and his wife still make a trip on the ship every year.

She usually loads coal at Midwest Energy in Superior and carries that cargo to Detroit Edison.
