The Coast Guard vessel Alder was launched on February 7th, 2004 at the Marinette Marine Corporation. She is the last in a series of 16 seagoing buoy tenders, a Juniper-class vessel at 225 feet long. She sailed from Marinette on September 12th, 2004 and arrived in Duluth on Saturday, October 16, 2004. Her missions: servicing aids to navigation, search and rescue, law enforcement, pollution response, and domestic ice-breaking.
