After the Asiaborg got through the 'situation' below, she moved into the port terminal to discharge wind trubine parts from Denmark. They will be trucked to a wind farm in Iowa. Above, a nacelle is slowly discharged from the Asiaborg by the two Port Terminal cranes working in tandem. This on Friday evening, May 10th, 2008. (larger version)
I asked the photographer what was going on here but he was too busy taking pictures. The CSL Assiniboine (in the rear at right) came into port at 4:25 pm on Wednesday afternoon, May 7. The Asiaborg (at left) arrived at 4:37 and the John J. Boland came between them before going under the Lift Bridge at 5:03.
The Walter J. McCarthy, Jr. came into port around 5 pm on Monday, May 6th, 2008
The Walter J. McCarthy, Jr.(above) was finally out on the lake this morning (Tuesday, May 6, 2008), leaving by way of the Superior entry. At the same time, but superimposed here, the University of Minnesota Duluth research vessel Blue Heron was also going out into Lake Superior after going under the Lift Bridge.
What happened to the good old days when only photographers had a camera. Not that I am a photographer. So here's two shots of the Cason J. Callaway coming into port on Sunday afternoon, May 4, 2008.
The brand new BBC Zarate arrived in Duluth around 6:15 on Thursday morning, May 1st, 2008, at the end of her first transit of the St. Lawrence Seaway System. She also brought the season's first shipment of wind turbine parts.

The UMD women's rugby team will play for the Division 2 championship at Stanford against Shippensburg on Saturday, May 3rd. Here they are practicing in Duluth a couple days before the big game. (more pictures)

I will get back to ships soon; I am still alive and kicking.

The Zoo is a great place to go for a business meeting. When I was done, I took a walk in the back yard and found these two cubs enjoying each others presence.
The tug Victory brought the barge James L. Kuber (formerly most of the steamer Reserve) and a load of limestone to the Twin Ports on Thursday, April 17, 2008. Above, it departed Duluth on Friday, headed for Silver Bay to load taconite.

Look what the wind blew in yesterday (Friday, April 11, 2008, see below). The crib that mysteriously appeared below the Veterans Memorial by the Lakewalk during a November storm in 2006, has now moved, or should I say was moved, to what could be called the North West corner of Lake Superior, about a third of a mile down the shore. Click here for more on the crib or here for a larger picture or here for a YouTube video, I think taken while the crib was moving down the shore (especially in the 2nd half of the video).
