One bridge, no boats

by Kenneth Newhams on February 6, 2010

bridgepainting20100206_1430 The Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge painting project continues. The scaffolding is almost to the top (below)  and the tents to protect us from flying chips of lead based paint are starting to appear (Saturday, February 6, 2010). Some folks think the concern about lead in paint is overdone, but it is funny, the closer you are to the chips, the happier you are with the tents. Of course, the tent will keep the painters warm; no such luck for the scaffolding builders. Painting is set to start on Monday.bridgepainting20100206_1404

Hey Ken! Does one get frozen to the bridge when they touch it? Sort of like sticking your tongue on a flag pole? You could not pay me a million dollars to be up on that bridge. Too high up and too cold! Thanks for the picture, though!

It won't be long and there will be plenty of boats in and out of the harbor.
Can't wait.

Hey Paul and Ken! I still hope the first boat through the freshly painted Duluth Lift Bridge will be the American Victory! Paul, her captain is a good ol' boy from the South, and we need to support our own! We're waiting for our 1 or 2 inches of snow down here. You hearty Yankees would laugh at us! Thanks for the great pictures, Ken.

This is probably a stupid question but, isn't it too cold to paint outdoors? Are there heaters in those tents? Some special paint for cold weather?
Jill. . .looks like you got your snow last week!

Hi Rene! Yes, we got our snow, twice as a matter of fact! Last Friday afternoon, and then again last evening. It was so pretty! Your question is not stupid. In my southern opinion, it is TOO cold to do anything! Bless Ken for braving the elements and taking these pictures for us.
